I love Arena San Juan Pantitlàn, with the crowd sitting above the ring legs dangling over. The exposed concrete, industrial setting is the perfect place for a ring that feels like an underground fight. So it’s the perfect arena for yet another bloody lucha brawl.
I’ve watched a lot of lucha, but I’d never seen this side of Barbaro before it and was such a departure from his CMLL work. Things start off at a clip and there’s a nice submission by Black Terry that’s immediately replied with a bite on the thigh by Barbaro. And we’re off.
Both men spill out the ring and there’s some very stiff looking headbutts right in the front row. A few more and yep, there’s there’s no mistaking in they look legit. Terry has such a straightforward brawling approach that’s pure, there’s no need for anything else to be added into the mix, it’s a trademark of his work.
We make our way back into the ring and Barbaro has been bloodied. There’s some brutally strong chops and some punches that even made me wince a little. I love black Terry’s submission game, holds look tight. Everything they hit in this match is really snug and it’s very satisfying watching two guys execute to this level.
The match spills back outside and we have one of the best beer to the face spots I think I’ve ever seen. It just seem to explode on contact. Depending on your appetite for violence, the headbutts at the end of the match are either going to be sickening or have you out of your seat (if you loved the LA Park brawls you’re gonna be taken care of here). Some people might feel a bit let down by the finish but it it is what it is, a lucha brawl finish.
